Discover Brisbane: Your Guide to an Unforgettable Adventure

Hello, travelers! Today I want to share with you my experience in Brisbane, a vibrant city that captured my heart during my adventure in Australia with a working holiday visa. If you've ever wondered what to do in Brisbane, here's everything you need to know to make the most of your visit.

First Impressions

Arriving in Brisbane was a culture shock after months in the countryside, where tranquility reigned. Upon returning to a hostel, I felt a little overwhelmed, but also excited for what was to come. Sharing space with other travelers became the first step towards new adventures.

How to Get Around the City

Brisbane is a big, beautiful city, perfect for exploring. One of the best ways to get to know it is through the CityHopper, a free ferry that runs through the center with seven strategic stops. You can find more information at Brisbane City Council . Plus, if you want more options, paid ferries offer additional routes.

Don't forget to use the Translink buses. You only need to buy a card to plan your trip in advance. From the airport, you have several options to get to the center: buses, taxis, Uber or the train, which is the fastest way. See Brisbane Airtrain for more details.

Where to Stay

At first, we stayed in a hostel in the center, but then we opted for CouchSurfing to save a little more. The experience was fantastic; Our host had a dedicated room and only asked that we share a dinner or go for a walk. It was a great way to meet the locals!

Unmissable Events

We visited Brisbane in September, and were lucky enough to attend the Brisbane Festival, which runs from late August to mid-September. This event is perfect to enjoy music, outdoor activities and lots of fun. For more information on events, check out the Brisbane Festival .

Brisbane Festival, this is celebrated between August and September each year, here you will find different types of events, outdoor music, silent parties, fireworks and endless activities.

Explore Nature and Culture

Brisbane is not only known for its urban life, but also for its beautiful parks and gardens. They are perfect for spectacular photos and enjoying the outdoors. There are also art galleries, museums and libraries for those seeking cultural experiences.

Recommended places:

  • South Bank Parklands : A beautiful park on the banks of the Brisbane River, ideal for walks, picnics and enjoying the man-made beach.

  • Roma Street Parkland : A sprawling park with themed gardens, picnic areas, and walking trails.

  • Mount Coot-tha Lookout : Offers panoramic views of the city and is perfect for a walk or picnic.

  • Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) : Two art galleries housing an impressive collection of contemporary and classical art.

  • Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary : The largest koala sanctuary in the world, where you can interact with koalas and other Australian animals.

Getaways from Brisbane

If you want to explore more, Brisbane is a great base. From here, you can fly to the Great Barrier Reef or, if you dare, drive to Cairns, which is over 1,700km away. You can also visit the beaches of Byron Bay, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, ideal for surfers and sea lovers.

Recommendations for Those Arriving with Working Holiday
